‘Berg Grapplers Host Ashland in Second of Five Home Duals This Season

TIFFIN, Ohio—The Heidelberg University wrestling team returns to the mat Tuesday, Dec. 6 when it hosts Division II foe Ashland University in the second of five home dual matches of the season at 7 p.m. at Seiberling Gymnasium in Tiffin, Ohio. Following tomorrow’ dual, the team will not wrestle at home again for more than a month.

The Student Princes (2-3) last competed Saturday at the Ohio Northern University Invitational, where they placed 14th.

Sophomore 141-pounder Chris Osborne (McComb) and senior heavyweight Jerry Knapp (Clinton Township/De La Salle) each posted 3-2 records and advanced to the fourth round of the consolation bracket to lead the ‘Berg.

Ashland, which will be wrestling in its first dual meet of the season, also competed at the ONU Invitational and came in seventh place. Joe Brandt won the 197-pound championship and Brandon Davis was the 125-pound runner-up.

Following Tuesday’s bout, the Berg will enjoy a three-week layoff before travelling to Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. for the Citrus Open on Dec. 29-30. The Student Princes then return home to open Ohio Athletic Conference competition with John Carroll University on Jan. 10.
