Wrestling Opens OAC Action Tuesday with John Carroll

TIFFIN, Ohio—The Heidelberg University wrestling team will open the Ohio Athletic Conference portion of its 2011-12 schedule on Tuesday, Jan. 10 when it hosts John Carroll University in a dual match at Seiberling Gymnasium in Tiffin, Ohio. The match is slated for 7:30 p.m.

The Student Princes (2-5, 0-0 OAC) are coming off an 11th-place finish at the Citrus Open in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. (Dec. 29-30). Sophomore 125-pounder Delian Schneider (Tiffin/Columbian) highlighted the tournament for the Berg with a fourth-place finish and a 4-2 record. Also recording multiple victories at the tournament were senior 125-pounder Jake Weisman (Bexley), sophomore 141-pounder Chris Osborne (McComb), sophomore 165-pounder Jake Cochran (West Jefferson), freshman heavyweight Tyler Smith (Calhoun/Sonoraville) and senior heavyweight Jerry Knapp (Columbia Station/Olmsted Falls).

John Carroll (1-1, 0-0 OAC) also last competed at the Citrus Open, where it posted an eighth-place finish. Terner Gott led the Blue Streaks with a 184-pound individual title, while Sean Gill and Todd Gaydosh recorded 4-1 and 4-2 records, respectively.

Following Tuesday’s bout, the Berg will travel to North Manchester, Ind. to compete in the Spartan Classic, hosted by Manchester College on Saturday, Jan. 14. The Student Princes OAC slate includes road matches at Muskingum University (Jan. 31) and the University of Mount Union (Feb. 7) and home dates against Baldwin-Wallace College (Feb. 14) and Ohio Northern University (Feb. 17).

Heidelberg will also serve as the host institution for the 2012 OAC Championship on Feb. 25.
