Austintown, Ohio – November 8, 2010 – The Heidelberg University wrestling team was selected to finish second in the Ohio Athletic Conference regular season dual meet poll and third in the OAC Championship for its 2010-2011 campaign.
Last year, the Student Princes finished in second place in the regular season, falling behind Ohio Northern University. However, the Berg came out on top in the OAC Championships to win its fifth straight OAC tournament title.
Claiming four votes and a first-place rank was Ohio Northern University, who ranked first in the OAC championship poll with three points. Following the Polar Bears and the Berg in the dual meet rankings was the University of Mount Union. Mount Union ranked above Heidelberg in the championship poll with three votes. Following the battle between ONU, Mount Union, and the Berg, was John Carroll University, Baldwin-Wallace College, Wilmington College, and Muskingum University in order.
Leading the Berg is senior Matt Curley (Brecksville, Ohio / Lakewood) and junior Tom D’Alessandro (Mayfield Hts., Ohio / Mayfield) whom are both nationally ranked. Both received first place finishes in their weight class for the OAC Championships last season. Also returning are OAC runner-ups Andrew Johnson (Weston, Ohio / Otsego) and Brad Rice (West Jefferson, Ohio / West Jefferson). Returning for the heavy weight class is junior Jerry Knapp (Olmstead Falls, Ohio / Olmsted).
Heidelberg opens the 2010-11 season at Olivet College in Olivet, Mich. The match is scheduled for Tuesday, November 9. Then following on Nov. 20, Heidelberg returns to Olivet for the annual Olivet Duals.
