D'Alessandro Earns Another Academic Honor

Austintown, Ohio – May 18, 2011 – Junior Tom D’Alessandro (Mayfield Heights, Ohio / Mayfield) of the Heidelberg University wrestling team continued to add to his postseason resume this week. D’Alessandro was named to the Ohio Athletic Conference Academic At-Large Honorable Mention Team. It is the second straight year that he has earned academic recognition from the league.

The Academic All-OAC team is voted on by each of the league’s 10 faculty athletic representatives. To be eligible a student-athlete must be in at least his second year of participation in the sport, a starter or key reserve, as well as have at least a 3.25 cumulative grade point average. Student-athletes from the sports of wrestling, golf, tennis and swimming make up the at-large team.

While at Heidelberg D’Alessandro is studying math and physics. This winter he successfully defended his OAC 133 pound championship and made his second straight trip to the NCAA Division III Championships. In the end he posted a 14-6 overall record. Aside from his league title, D’Alessandro also earned his second National Wrestling Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete All-American honor.
