Tiffin, Ohio – May 9, 2011 – Heidelberg University director of athletics Matt Palm has announced that Nathan Shearer has stepped down as head wrestling coach. A job search will begin immediately to fill the vacancy.
“I would like to thank Nathan for his dedication to the continued success of Heidelberg’s wrestling program over the last two years,” said Palm. “He showed a great commitment to recruiting quality student-athletes and ensuring that they had a great overall experience while on campus. On behalf of the university I would like to wish him continued success.”
The 2010-11 season marked the first at the helm of the Student Princes, but his second with the institution. He joined the program as an assistant coach in 2009-10. While overseeing the program, Shearer guided the Berg to a runner-up finish in the OAC Tournament, highlighted by two champions. He coached three national qualifiers and had four NWCA Scholar All-Americans. In his first season with the team, Shearer assisted with the Berg winning its fifth consecutive OAC Tournament title and had four national qualifiers.
“I would like to thank Heidelberg for an opportunity to continue to add to the success of the wrestling program and the university,” said Shearer. “My family and I are very grateful for our time we spent in Tiffin and look forward to our new challenges that lie ahead.”
