Tiffin, Ohio - January 18, 2011 - The Heidelberg University wrestling team opened up its 2010-11 Ohio Athletic Conference schedule with a dominating 51-6 victory over Wilmington College under the spotlight in Seiberling Gymnasium. The victory improved the Berg to 8-7-2 overall and 1-0 in the OAC, while the Quakers stand at 0-2 and 0-1.
Wilmington recorded its lone points courtesy of a 'Berg forfeit at 125 pounds and then the Berg took charge. Tom D'Alessandro (Mayfield Heights, Ohio / Mayfield) got things started with a pin in 1:44 at 133 pounds. After a Wilmington forfeit at 141, Heidelberg's Andrew Johnson (Weston, Ohio / Ostego) and Sean Pincura (Amherst, Ohio / Midview) posted back-to-back falls at 149 and 157 pounds, respectively to extend Heidelberg's lead to 24-6.
Reigning OAC Wrestler of the Week Matt Curley (Brecksville, Ohio / Lakewood) added five points to Heidelberg's total with a 20-4 technical fall in 2:41.
After Wilmington forfeits at 174, 184 and 197, Jerry Knapp (Olmsted Falls, Ohio / Olmsted Falls) closed out the Berg scoring with an 8-0 major decision at heavyweight.
Heidelberg continues its trek through the OAC next Tuesday when it entertains Muskingum University. The dual is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m.
