Heidelberg Picks Up Academic Honors

Tiffin, Ohio – March 8, 2010 – The nationally ranked Heidelberg University wrestling team not only excels on the mat, but also in the classroom. For the third-straight year, fourth overall, the Berg ranks in the top-10 in the nation academically. As a team, Heidelberg ranks seventh. The award is presented on behalf of the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) and was awarded in conjunction with last weekend’s NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. As a team, Heidelberg boasts a cumulative grade point average of 3.377.

Individually six landed a spot on the Academic All-American Scholar-Athlete. Leading the way was three-time honoree senior 174 pounder Dan Jonhenry (Berea, Ohio / Berea). Dan Jonhenry was also an Academic All-American in 2006 and 2007. At 165 pounds senior Aaron Jonhenry (Berea, Ohio / Berea) earned his second award, joining his 2007 selection. Brad Rice (West Jefferson, Ohio / West Jefferson) wrestles at 197 pounds and is honored for the second-consecutive season.

First time honors goes to sophomores Tom D’Alessandro (Mayfield Heights, Ohio / Mayfield) (133) and Cory Martinson (Brunswick, Ohio / St. Edwards), along with senior Ed Bizorik (Bellevue, Ohio / Bellevue).

To earn individual Academic All-American honors, a student-athlete must carry at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, qualified for nationals, or placed in your national qualifying match and/or have at least a 67 percent winning percentage.
