ONU Snaps 'Berg Streak

Tiffin, Ohio – January 26, 2010 – In a back and forth battle under the spotlight in Seiberling Gymnasium Ohio Northern University topped the Heidelberg University wrestling team 18-16 to snap Heidelberg’s 19 match Ohio Athletic Conference dual winning streak. The Berg had not dropped a regular season OAC dual since 2007.

Overall the Berg now stands at 7-7 and are 4-1 in the OAC, while the Polar Bears improve to 14-10 overall and 4-0 versus league opponents.

Heidelberg opened up with six points courtesy of an Ohio Northern forfeit at 125 pounds. ONU and Heidelberg traded wins at 133 and 141 pounds. Registering a major decision at 141 pounds was Heidelberg’s Sam Delpra (Chesterland, Ohio / West Geauga).

At 165 pounds, Heidelberg’s Matt Curley (Brecksville, Ohio / Lakewood) snapped a two-bout winning streak for the visitors with a 12-6 decision.

Following Curley’s victory, the Berg held a 13-9 advantage, but Ohio Northern claimed decisions at 174, 184 and 285 to post the win.

Rounding out the victors for the Berg was Brad Rice (West Jefferson, Ohio / West Jefferson) with a decision at 197 pounds.

Heidelberg takes a break from OAC action this weekend when they travel to the Pete Willson Invitational.
