Freshman 133-pounder Justin Kihn (Kettering/Kettering Fairmont) has been named Ohio Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Week for the first time in his career.
Kihn earned the OAC Wrestler of the Week honors after wrestling to a 4-0 record and first place finish at the Mid-State Invitational hosted by Alma College on Saturday, February 16.
On his way to the top of the podium in Alma, Michigan, Kihn took down the 13th ranked wrestler in the country, Michael Gancer of Olivet College.
Kihn also found redemption on his way to first place as he defeated Gancer’s teammate, Kameron Olsen, 8-4. Olsen downed Kihn a week ago in the dual match between the Comets and Student Princes.
“Justin had a great day, and we [the coaching staff] know he is capable of beating some of the best guys in the country and he showed that on Saturday,” said second year head coach Ned Shuck.
“Justin is progressing quickly and is really hungry. Last Friday, Justin lost to Kameron Olsen of Olivet who he beat in the quarterfinals at Alma showing how fast he can make significant improvements,” Shuck added.
The Heidelberg grapplers will take a week off to prepare for the Mideast Regional.
