BLUFFTON, Ohio – Senior Sophie Goobic (Canton, NY/Williams) took first place at the Bluffton Invitational to lead Heidelberg University women’s cross-country team to a second place finish. The men’s team, paced by Brad Palocko (Medina), finished third.
Goobic finished the 5k race in 19:29, nearly 50 seconds ahead of the second and third place finishers.
Freshman Dani Blum (Galion) finished fourth, clocking in at 20:25. Lorin Conti (Milford) and Allie Dresser (Martin) each logged a time of 20:47.
The women finished eight points behind first place Ohio Northern.
“The women are so strong and have much more to give,” said fourth-year head coach Briana Hess. “I’m excited for their season to unfold.”
Palocko finished the 6k men’s race at 20:32, 16th place overall. Jesse Rudolph (Medina), Jon Clinard (Sidney) and Zach Flint (Delaware/Hayes) finished in a pack at 21:22.
“We have a lot of potential on the men’s side,” said Hess. “They just have to learn how to bring it out on the right day.”
The cross-country teams will return to action on September 21 at the Calvin Invitational.
