Seniors Sophie Goobic and Amber Welfle received Ohio Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors for women’s cross country and volleyball respectively.
Goobic claimed first place in the women’s 5k at the Bluffton Invitational on Saturday afternoon. She outpaced the second and third place finishers by 0:50 on her way to a 19:29 finish.
Sophie's first place performance helped guide the Berg's women's team to a second place finish overall. Also, her 19:29 in Bluffton is currently her college personal best.
Welfle helped guide the Student Princes to a 2-1 finish at the Ohio Northern Invitational in Ada, Ohio over the weekend. In three contests agaisnt Theil, St. Mary's and OACfoe Ohio Northern, Amber collected 48 kills, with at least ten kills per game, nine digs and nine total blocks.
For the season, she owns a kill percentage of .421 and is averaging 4.38 kills per set, both team highs.
Sophie and the rest of the men's and women's cross country teams will take a week off before traveling to Grand Rapids, Mich. and the campus of Calvin College to compete in the Calvin Invitational. Running is set to begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 14.
This coming weekend, Amber and the Heidelberg volleyball team will travel to Cincinnati on Friday, September 6 to compete in the Charlie Wrublewski Tournament hosted by the College of Mount St. Joseph. The Berg will face off against Depauw on Friday evening followed by host Mount St. Joseph and Thomas More on Saturday.
