Heidelberg Women Compete at Tiffin Team Challenge

TIFFIN, Ohio - The Heidelberg University women’s cross country team opened the 2011 season in competing in the first Tiffin Team Challenge. The spectator-friendly 4-Kilometer course made for great entertainment as the competing teams, including Heidelberg, Mount Union, Ohio Northern, and Tiffin University tethered their runners together to compete in a team effort. In order to score, the teams, which started with up to seven members attached at the hip, must finish with five runners tethered.

The Berg women consisting of junior Bobbi Custer (Woodstock/Triad), sophomores Sophie Goobic (Canton, N.Y./Hugh C. Williams), and Jocelyn Staugler (Coldwater), and freshman Rachael Brushaber (Harbor Springs, Mich.), and Julia Darling (Amsterdam/Carrollton) fought 90-degree temperatures to finish with a time of 17:52. Competing unattached for the Berg included senior Libby Engeman (Fremont/Fremont St. Joe) (20:59), junior Jordan Barker (Toledo, Bowsher) (20:39), sophomore Leah Boileau (Dearborn, Mich./Edsel B. Ford) (21:32), and freshman Kelsey Swavel (Upper Sandusky) (19:01). They return to action next Saturday, Sept. 10 in Delaware, OH for the Ohio Wesleyan Invite.
