Women’s Basketball to Play Two Games in Boston

TIFFIN, Ohio—The Heidelberg University women’s basketball team will undertake an 800-mile journey to Boston, Mass. to play in the Emmanuel College (Mass.) Saints Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 19-20. The Berg faces tournament host Emmanuel on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. and either William Paterson (N.J.) University or Moravian (Pa.) College on Sunday.

Heidelberg (0-1) opened its season on Wednesday with a 63-55 loss to Ohio Wesleyan University. In that game, transfer sophomore guard Megan Miller (Tiffin/Columbian) scored 12 points and had five rebounds and sophomore guard Kathleen Phillips (Sandusky/St. Mary’s) poured in 13 points on five-of-19 shooting and matched Miller with a team-high five rebounds.

The Tri-Color shot 31.4 percent (22-of-70) from the field and 70.0 percent (seven-of-10) from the free throw line and tallied 10 assists by nine different players on its 22 field goals. Junior forward Casey Bishop (Orrville) pulled down a team-high nine rebounds and sophomore forward Jessica Simpkins (Sunbury/Big Walnut) grabbed four caroms.

Following competition at the EC Saints Invitational, the Berg will play Earlham (Ind.) College in Richmond, Ind. on Tuesday, Nov. 22. Upon its return to Tiffin, the team will have trekked nearly 1,800 miles in five days.
