'Berg Drops to Capital at Home

Tiffin, Ohio – February 5, 2011 – The Heidelberg University women’s basketball team fell in an Ohio Athletic Conference match-up against Capital University at Seiberling Gymnasium, 88-68. The loss brings the Student Princes to 1-20 overall and 0-14 in the OAC, allowing Capital to improve to 13-7 and 8-6.

Freshman Kathleen Phillips (Sandusky, Ohio / St. Mary's) started the Berg off with a jumper followed by two shots from the charity line to bring the Berg on top. Phillips contributed eight points in the first half. With two minutes left in the first half, freshman Emily Giel (Burton, Ohio / Burkshire) hit a three bringing the Berg within six.  

Coming out in the second half, Phillips battled back and forth with Capital, gaining seven points alone in the first two minutes. Senior Jenny Miller (Tiffin, Ohio / Clyde) made her presence from the line going 8-8 in the second half, and 13-16 for the game.

The Crusaders had four girls scoring over ten points, with Brea Tackett leading the team with 19. Shalena Hawkins also scored 13 points and added three steals. Leading rebounds with nine was Elizabeth Ladrach. Capital went 22-33 from the line and 29-48 from the field.

Leading the Berg was Miller with 17 points and three rebounds. Also contributing was Phillips and Giel with 15 and 11 respectively. Off the bench, Heidelberg had 23 points and 17 rebounds. As a team, the Berg went 20-52 in the field and 20-25 from the free throw line.

Heidelberg returns to action on Wednesday, February 9, in an OAC match at Ohio Northern. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
