Heidelberg Falls to Mount Union

Tiffin, Ohio – January 15, 2011 – The Heidelberg University women’s basketball team fell in an Ohio Athletic Conference match-up against Mount Union this afternoon in Seiberling Gymnasium with a score of 74-46. This set back brings the Berg to a record of 1-14 overall and 0-8 in the OAC, while the Raiders improve to 12-2 and 6-2.

Senior Kristen McConkey (New Carlisle, Ohio / Tecumseh) started the Students Princes scoring with a lay-up with 16:09 in the first period. McConkey scored four points and added a pair of rebounds. Also contributing in the first period was junior Chelsey Calhoun (Sullivan, Ohio / Black River), who ended the day with six points and a steal.

Despite outscoring the Raiders in the second half, 36-32, the ‘Berg could not recover from their earlier set back. In the second half, McConkey began the scoring again two minutes into play. The ‘Berg rallied a few points after a couple of free throws from freshman Nicole Lamb (Oregon, Ohio / Cardinal Stritch), and a basket by freshman Kathleen Phillips (Sandusky, Ohio / St. Mary’s).

For the Raiders, center, Brittany Kilgore led the team with 12 points, five rebounds and a steal. Backing Kilgore was Katie Crider with ten points and two steals. Leading the team in rebounds was Kori Wiedt with six. Mount Union had four players scoring eight or more points this afternoon.

Leading for the Berg was Phillipswith 11 points and three rebounds. Also scoring 11 points was senior Jenny Miller (Tiffin, Ohio / Clyde). Miller also contributed seven rebounds and was seven-for-seven from the charity line. Freshman Dana Kaufman (Ottawa, Ohio / Glandorf) also came into action with a couple of steals for the Berg.

The Student Princes return to play at John Carroll for another OAC match-up on Wednesday, January 19. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
