Westerville, Ohio – January 12, 2011 – Despite coming out strong in the first five minutes of play, the Heidelberg University women’s basketball team dropped to Ohio Athletic Conference foe Otterbein University, 62-44.
Heidelberg senior Jenny Miller (Tiffin, Ohio / Clyde) earned a double-double with a team high 10 points and a game high 11 rebounds. Freshman Kathleen Phillips (Sandusky, Ohio / St. Mary’s) followed with 13 points.
Also making her presence felt was senior Kristen McConkey (New Carlisle, Ohio / Tecumseh) who grabbed down six rebounds and scored six points. Junior Chelsey Calhoun (Sullivan, Ohio / Black River) contributed with four boards and four points, while sophomore Jordan Ickes (Wooster, Ohio / Triway) recorded four points and three boards.
The Lady Cardinals offensive charge was led by Maggie Allard with a game high 17 points and Kristi Kotterman who scored 12, while Brooke Robbins led on the glass with eight boards.
The Berg started out the game strong with an 8-2 lead when Ickes scored on a fastbreak layup at the 16:45 mark. Freshman Emily Giel (Burton, Ohio / Burkshire) earned the assist.
The lead, however, did not last long as Otterbein went on an 8-2 run to tie things up at 10 apiece. After Heidelberg regained the lead on the ensuing possession, the Lady Cardinals would take its first lead of the game and did not look back.
For the game, Otterbein outshot the Berg 38.3% to 27.7% and also had the advantage behind the arc shooting 38.5% (5-for-13) compared to Heidelberg’s 14% (3-for-21).
The Berg looks to regroup as it hosts the University of Mount Union on Saturday, January 15 at 2:00 p.m. in Seiberling Gymnasium.
