ONU Tops the Berg in Tiffin

Tiffin, Ohio – January 5, 2010 – Ohio Northern University topped Heidelberg University 76-41 in an Ohio Athletic Conference women’s basketball game in Seiberling Gymnasium, on the campus of Heidelberg. The setback drops the Berg to 1-11 on the year and 0-5 in the OAC, while the Polar Bears improve to 11-2 and 6-0.

After an early back and forth battle, ONU outscored the Berg 17-2 in the last 10 minutes of the opening half to take a 34-18 lead at the intermission.

Heidelberg’s Jenny Miller (Tiffin, Ohio / Clyde) scored first in the second half, but the Polar Bears answered with 12- 0 run to take charge en route to the win.

For the game, the Berg shot just 26.8 percent (15-of-56) from the field, while ONU hit 47.4 percent (27-of-57) of its shots from the floor. ON the glass, ONU held a 42-31 advantage.

Leading the way for the Berg was Miller with 12 points, four rebounds, four assists, two blocks and a steal. Emily Giel (Burton, Ohio / Berkshire) and Casey Bishop (Orrville, Ohio / Orrville) chipped in with nine points apiece. Kristen McConkey (New Carlisle, Ohio / Tecumseh) led the way on the glass with seven boards.

ONU was led by Katie Megos’ 15 points and six rebounds. Jeanne Bockey added 10 points.
