Austintown, Ohio – March 11, 2010 – The Heidelberg University women’s basketball team has three representatives on the 2010 Academic Ohio Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Team. Earning a spot on the team are senior Betsy Shrider (Mount Blanchard, Ohio / Riverdale) and fellow classmate Stacey Barker (Grove City, Ohio / Grove City), while junior Jenny Miller (Tiffin, Ohio / Clyde) is an honorable mention honoree.
The faculty athletic representatives of the 10-member OAC schools voted on the selections. To be eligible one must carry at least a 3.25 cumulative grade points average, be a starter or key reserve and be in at least their second year at the institution.
Shrider is picking up her second academic honor this season, joining her nod on the ESPN the Magazine Academic District IV Team. She is majoring in public relations and English writing, while boasting a 4.0 grade point average. In her first season in the starting lineup, she averaged a team-best 8.2 rebounds a night and lead the way with 67 blocks. Shrider also contributed with 7.3 points a contest.
Barker is a business and finance major and has a gpa of 3.54. She is picking up his first academic honor of her career. On the court, Barker dished out a team-high 73 assists and also led with 55 three-point field goals made. She was also second on the team with 8.5 points an outing. On defense, Barker was second on the team with 29 steals.
Miller is also picking up her first career academic honor of her career. Most recently she earned a spot on the 2010 Ohio Athletic Conference Honorable Mention list. Miller carries a 3.58 gpa as a early childhood education major. During the season, she led the team in points averaging 14.5 an outing. Miller was second on the team with 26 blocks and in rebounds, grabbing 7.8 a game. She also tied for first on the team with 32 steals.
Heidelberg, under the guidance of second-year head coach Marcie Alberts, finished the year at 7-19 overall and 6-12 in the OAC, good enough for eighth place. The Berg made its 24th appearance in the OAC Tournament.
