Crusaders Tops the Berg

Columbus, Ohio – February 11, 2010 – The Heidelberg University women’s basketball team dropped a hard fought 71-59 decision to Capital University. The Berg falls to 5-17 overall and 4-11 in the OAC, while the Crusaders improve to 16-6 and are 13-2 against league foes.

In the first half, Capital would have an 10 point lead, however, Heidelberg would narrow the margin to 29-24 when junior Jenny Miller (Tiffin, Ohio / Clyde) found sophomore Lyndsey DaVault (Orrville, Ohio / Orrville) for a three-pointer with one minute left before halftime. 

The Crusaders would go into intermission up 38-28.

Right out of the gates in the second half, the Berg would go on an 11-5 run which included senior Stacey Barker (Grove City, Ohio / Grove City) nailing two free-throws. 

Heidelberg continued to chip away at Capital’s lead including coming within three points, with the score 50-47, with 11 minutes to go when Miller split a pair of free throws. 

However, the Crusaders would sustain the lead throughout the rest of the game and would capture the victory.  

For Heidelberg, Miller led two in double figures with 20 points to go along with seven rebounds. Following Miller was Barker with 14 points (including 4-5 from long range) and dished out a game-high four assists. 

On the glass, Heidelberg held a 38-35 advantage. Leading the way was senior Betsy Shrider (Mount Blanchard, Ohio / Riverdale) with a game-high nine rebounds. Shrider also had a team-high four rejections. DaVault also contributed with six points. 

Heidelberg is back in action Saturday for Senior Day when it hosts Wilmington College, February 13 at 3:00 p.m.
