Rejuvenated 'Berg Wins at Home

Tiffin, Ohio – January 16, 2010 – A rejuvenated Heidelberg University women’s basketball team, led by senior guard Stacey Barker (Grove City, Ohio / Grove City), emerged in the second half to help lead the host Student Princes to a 70-63 victory over Muskingum University today, January 16.

Heidelberg trailed by two points, 27-25, at halftime, but returned to outscore the Muskies 45-36 in the second period to improve its overall record to 4-12 and its Ohio Athletic Conference mark to 3-6. The Muskies fell to 6-10 overall and 1-8 with the loss.

In the second half, Barker shot 6-for-7 from long range for 18 points to help lead the Berg to the victory. For the game she finished with a game-high, and a career-best, 20 points, to go along with four assists, three rebounds and two steals. Her six made three-pointers ties for second most in a single-game at the Berg.

Also backing the rejuvenated ’Berg in the second half was Jenny Miller (Tiffin, Ohio / Clyde) with 10 of her 18 points. Miller also finished with a team-best eight rebounds, while adding five assists.

Rounding out four in double figures was Betsy Shrider (Mount Blanchard, Ohio / Riverdale) and Lyndsey DaVault (Orrville, Ohio / Orrville) with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Shrider also had seven rebounds and two blocks, while DaVault had five boards.

Heidelberg finished the game shooting 44.1 percent (26-of-59) from the field, but connected on 55.6 percent (15-of-27) of its shots in the second half, while holding Muskingum to a 29.7 clip (11-of-37). For the game, Muskingum finished at 33.3 percent (22-of-66). On the glass, Heidelberg held a 46-39 advantage.

The second half featured seven lead changes and five ties. Heidelberg led by as many as eight points, 49-41, with 13:00 left in the contest. Heidelberg’s Stacey Richard (Galloway, Ohio /Central Crossing) put the Berg out on top for good with two free throws at the 4:45 mark to help send the Berg to the victory column.
