The Heidelberg University women’s basketball team traveled to Cleveland, Ohio to battle the Spartans of Case Western Reserve University. Despite junior Kathleen Phillips (Sandusky/St. Mary’s) scoring a season-high 30-points, the Berg dropped their first contest of the New Year, 74-59.
Phillips shot 11-22 from the field including two three-pointers. She tallied nine rebounds, two steals and two assists while shooting a perfect six of six from the charity stripe.
Senior Jordan Ickes (Wooster/Triway) and freshman Allie Hawkins (Bucyrus) both collected eight points for the Student Princes in the loss.
Ickes shot three of seven against the Spartans, hitting on two three-pointers. She also collected four rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal.
Hawkins knocked down two three-pointers and collected one rebound and one assist off the bench for the Berg.
Sophomore Paige Ricketts (Mineral City/Tusky Valley) recorded a team-high five assists and tied junior Megan Miller (Tiffin/Columbian) with eight rebounds. Miller scored seven against the Spartans.
The Heidelberg lady roundballers will return to the hardwood on Saturday, January 5, 2013, when they travel to Muskingum University. Tip-off from New Concord, Ohio, between the Muskies and Student Princes is slated for 3:00 p.m.
