ADA, Ohio – Heidelberg University volleyball started the 2013 season with a sweep of Thiel, 25-18, 25-13, 25-13, at the Ohio Northern Invitational on Friday. The Student Princes held the Thiel attack to a .043 hitting percentage.
Senior Amber Welfle (Norwalk/St. Paul) and freshman Sarah Parker (Sycamore/Mohawk) had 11 kills apiece to pace the ‘Berg attack. Welfle is 89 kills away from being the ninth player in Heidelberg history to surpass the 1,000 kill plateau.
Junior Stephanie Romie (Anna) had 18 assists in the win. Senior Alexa Frank (Tiffin/Calvert) added 13 assists.
Defensively, Jamie Kluding (Norwalk/Monroeville) had 15 digs and Jubilee Haase (Miamisburg) had 12 digs.
"We played as I expected with a lot of new faces on the court," said head coach Jason Miller. "We have some areas we know we need to work on to get better."
The Student Princes return to action for a pair of matches on Saturday. They will face Saint Mary’s at 10 a.m. and Ohio Northern in a non-conference match at noon.
