TIFFIN, Ohio – After his volleyball team swept Baldwin Wallace in an OAC match (25-10, 25-18, 25-21), Heidelberg University’s head coach Jason Miller seemed pleased – until his daughter Olivia asked, “Daddy, did we win?”
Miller chuckled at Olivia’s question, but remained excited about the effort from the team.
Senior Marian Bevington (Celina/Parkway) led Heidelberg with 13 kills. Freshman Jamie Kluding (Norwalk/Monroeville) was one kill away from her third consecutive double-double, as she finished with nine kills and a team-high 13 sets.
Setters Rachel Ferguson (Brighton, MI) and Alexa Frank (Tiffin/Calvert) finished with 18 sets apiece.
The Student Princes (16-6, 4-1) attacked at a .452 clip in the first set, while the Yellow Jackets (9-15, 1-3) hit .000.
“That first set was the best we’ve played all season,” said Miller. “We’ve worked so hard in practice, and it was great to see that all-around performance.”
After winning the second set, The Berg fell behind in the third.
“We lost some confidence for a while and stopped communicating effectively,” said Miller. “It was great to see the girls refocus on winning the third set, rather than packing it in for a fourth set.”
Heidelberg will host Otterbein University Friday evening in a matchup between two of the OAC’s top teams.
“This will give the girls good confidence as we look ahead to Friday,” said Miller.
The game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
