Bevington, Haase, and Reinhart Earn All-Tournament Honors at ONU Invitational

 ADA, Ohio— Junior second-team All-OAC middle hitter Marian Bevington (Celina/Parkway), senior second-team All-OAC outside hitter Venessa Haase (Miamisburg) and senior reigning Ohio Athletic Conference player of the year Jackie Reinhart (New Riegel) garnered all-tournament
accolades, as the No. 12 Heidelberg University volleyball team earned another pair of wins at the Ohio Northern University Invitational in Ada, finishing the tournament with a 4-0 record to tie with Ohio Athletic Conference rival ONU atop the tournament standings. The Berg claimed 3-0
sweeps of Defiance College (25-14, 25-12, 25-15) and Thiel (Pa.) College (25-7, 25-17, 25-19) at the ONU Sports Center.

Heidelberg’s three all-tournament selections topped the field of six participating teams.

The Berg outscored its opponents 300-164 over the two-day tournament, which included 3-0 sweeps of Trine (Ind.) University and Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) University yesterday.

Against Defiance, Bevington led the Berg with six kills and four blocks. Backing Bevington were Haase, junior honorable mention All-OAC rightside hitter Jacki Street (Grafton/Midview) and sophomore middle hitter Amber Welfle (Norwalk/St. Paul) with five kills apiece. Welfle also led the Berg with four aces.

Junior setter Rachel Ferguson (Brighton, Mich./Brighton ) led the team in assists with 11. Also contributing were Alexa Frank (Tiffin/Calvert) and Stephanie Romie (Anna) with eight and three helpers, respectively.

Defensively, Reinhart led the back line with six digs. Freshman defensive specialist Tessa Benanzer (Fort Laramie) added four digs and freshman Kristen Zumberger (Sidney/Fort Loramie) had three.

Against Thiel, three student-athletes notched eight or more kills, while three more tallied nine or more digs. Bevington scored on a match-high 11 kills and was followed by Welfle and Street, who had eight apiece. Haase dug a match-high 10 attacks. Benanzer and Reinhart each had nine digs.

Guiding the offense again was Ferguson, whose 14 assists led all setters.

Heidelberg will return to Tiffin for its home opener on Wednesday, September 7 against Hiram College in Seiberling Gymnasium at 7 p.m.
