Tiffin, Ohio – November 11, 2010 – The Heidelberg University volleyball team is represented by four players on the 2010 Great Lakes Region Team as announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) this afternoon, Nov. 11.
Landing a spot on the all-region team was Brittany Donelan (North Olmsted, Ohio / North Olmsted) and Jackie Reinhart (New Riegel, Ohio / New Riegel), while Marian Bevington (Celina, Ohio / Parkway) and Venessa Haase (Miamisburg, Ohio / Miamisburg) were honorable mention selections. Donelan and Reinhart are now on the ballot for AVCA All-American honors.
Donelan is picking up her third consecutive all-region honor, which includes her second straight spot on the All-American ballot. A season ago she earned her first All-American honors. Joining her all-region selection was the OAC Libero of the Year honor for the third time, as well as a spot on the OAC First Team. In the classroom, Donelan was named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District IV First Team and is up for Academic All-America accolades.
In her final campaign, Donelan has amassed 757 digs, to go along with 28 service aces. This season she topped the Heidelberg career record book for digs and is currently one dig shy of tying the OAC all-time digs list. In four years Donelan has 2,671 digs.
Reinhart, the 2010 OAC Player of the Year, is picking up her first all-region honor. It joins her player of the year accolade, as well as her nod on the OAC First Team. An all-around player, Reinhart has tallied a team-leading 67 service aces, to go along with 317 kills and 551 digs, both of which rank second on the team. For the year she has registered 13 double-doubles.
This season Reinhart has moved into the top-five at Heidelberg in career digs and her 67 aces ranks third. Reinhart is also steadily moving up the list for career service aces.
Bevington is a two-year starter and has come into her own this season. She is picking up her second postseason honor this year. A week earlier she was named to the OAC Second Team. Bevington leads the team with 418 kills, along with a .299 attack percentage. At the net she leads the blockers with 125 total blocks.
In the Heidelberg annuals, Bevington is inching closer to the top-five for single season kills and her total blocks this season has moved into the top-10 in recent weeks.
Haase is picking up her first all-region nod and it joins her OAC Second Team honors this season. Versatility is her strong point as she ranks in the top-three on the team in kills with 284, service aces with 66 and digs with 412. She has seen double in 12 outings on the year.
In just three seasons she has moved into the top-five at the Berg in career kills and single season service aces. She is also approaching the top half of the career service aces list.
Heidelberg is ranked 13th in the nation and is in the midst of the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional hosted by Wittenberg University. This afternoon, Nov. 11, Heidelberg topped Greenville College 3-1 to advance to the second round against Calvin College. For the year Heidelberg boasts an overall record of 33-5, which marks a single season record.
