'Berg Earns Sweep at Tri-Match

New Concord, Ohio – October 9, 2010 – The Heidelberg University volleyball team swept both matches at the tri-match hosted by Muskingum University. The Berg began with a win over OAC foe Muskingum (27-25, 25-22, 25-12) and continued the winning against Case Western University (25-20, 25-17, 25-21). The no. 15 nationally ranked Student Prince increased its record to 22- 3 overall and 4-0 in OAC play.

The Berg started off the day strong with a sweep against the Muskies. Junior Jackie Reinhart (New Riegel, Ohio / New Riegel) led the team with 13 kills. FreshmanAmber Welfle (Norwalk, Ohio / St. Paul) also contributed nine kills and sophomore Marian Bevington (Celina, Ohio / Parkway) contributed eight.

Freshman Alexa Frank (Tiffin, Ohio / Calvert) led the team with 22 assists, backed by Rachel Ferguson (Brighton, Mich. / Brighton) with 16.

Defensively, senior libero Brittany Donelan (North Olmsted, Ohio / North Olmsted) led the team with 26 digs. Reinhart recorded in 22 digs for her double-double. Also contributing was Ferguson with 12 digs and Venessa Haase (Miamisburg, Ohio / Miamisburg) with 11.

In the second match-up against Case Western, Bevington led the team with 13 kills. Sophomore Jacki Street (Grafton, Ohio / Midview) contributed seven and junior Melissa Eck (Parma, Ohio / Valley Forge) added five along with Haase and Reinhart.

Frank continued to lead the day in assists with 24, backed by Ferguson with 13. The Berg also dished out three aces, one from Ferguson, Haase, and Reinhart.

Donelan and Reinhart led the way with tough defense again registering 18 digs apiece. Haase also contributed 15 and Frank with eight.

The Berg continued OAC play on Tuesday, October 12, at Baldwin-Wallace University in Berea, Ohio. Play starts at 7:00 p.m.
