Tiffin, Ohio – September 28, 2010 – The Heidelberg University volleyball team continued its winning streak with a victory tonight over Capital University. The Berg swept another match in the Ohio Athletic Conference (25-13, 25-15, 27-25). Heidelberg improves its record to 16-2 overall and 3-0 in the OAC, while Capital falls to 7-13 and 0-1 in OAC play.
Offensively, sophomore Jacki Street (Grafton, Ohio / Midview) led the team with a season-high 14 kills in 20 attempts ending with a .700 attack percentage. Adding to the teams’ 50 kills was classmate Marian Bevington (Celina, Ohio / Parkway) with 12 and junior Venessa Haase (Miamisburg, Ohio / Miamisburg) with 10.
Sophomore setter Rachel Ferguson (Brighton, Mich. / Brighton) dished out 27 assists for the Berg. Backing her was freshman Alexa Frank (Tiffin, Ohio / Calvert) with 14.
On the defensive end, Haase completed a double-double with 15 digs. Also adding depth in the back row was Jackie Reinhart (New Riegel, Ohio / New Riegel) with 12 digs, and senior libero Brittany Donelan (North Olmsted, Ohio / North Olmsted) with 11.
The Berg totaled 11 aces against Capital. Reinhart led the team with four, followed by Ferguson with three and Haase with two. Also contributing was Donelan and Frank with one apiece.
Heidelberg resumes play Friday and Saturday at the Illinois Wesleyan Tournament in Bloomington, Ill. The Berg steps on the court at 3:00 p.m. against Alma College, followed by Millikin University at 5:15 p.m.
