Tiffin, Ohio – September 21, 2010 – The Heidelberg University volleyball team extended its winning streak to six after a sweep of Wilmington College (25-12, 25-8, 25-15). Heidelberg, ranked 11th in the nation, improved to 13-2 overall and opened Ohio Athletic Conference play 1-0. Wilmington falls to 4-8 overall and 0-1 in the OAC.
Offensively, the Berg had a combined hitting percentage of .481 for the night. Leading the team was Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week Jackie Reinhart (New Riegel, Ohio / New Riegel) with 10 kills. Also contributing was sophomore Marian Bevington (Celina, Ohio / Parkway) and junior Melissa Eck (Parma, Ohio / Valley Forge) with eight apiece. Freshmen Amber Welfe (Norwalk, Ohio / St. Paul) and Lauren Brown (Cable, Ohio / Triad) recorded five kills each.
Freshman setter Alexa Frank (Tiffin, Ohio / Calvert) got her first collegiate start for the Berg. Frank had a career-high 31 assists and also picked up three digs.
Against the Quakers, the Berg served up eight aces. Reinhart led the team with four and freshman Mackenzie Pinkelman (Metamora, Ohio / Evergreen) contributed two.
On the defensive end, junior Elizabeth Morelli (Westerville, Ohio / North) led the team with a career-high 12 digs. Also contributing to the teams combined 36 digs was Reinhart with seven and freshman Samantha Bevelacque (Cleveland, Ohio / Trinity) with four.
The Student Princes are back in action this Saturday at Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio. Play starts off with an OAC match against Otterbein at 1:00 p.m. and picks up again at 3:00 p.m. with a non-conference match against Thomas More.
