The Berg Wins Second Straight Tournament

Greencastle, Ind. – September 19, 2009 – Paced by all-tournament selections Amanda Atchison (Frankfort, Ohio / Frankfort Adena) and Brittany Donelan (North Olmsted, Ohio / North Olmsted) the Heidelberg University volleyball team won its second-straight tournament, claiming the title at the 2009 DePauw University Invitational in Greencastle, Ind. Heidelberg posted a 4-0 record, including three sweeps, to run away with the title. Its DePauw championship joins its winning performance last weekend at the Golden Flyer Tournament in Rochester, N.Y.

With its four wins over the weekend, Heidelberg improves to 12-2 on the year and has rattled off nine-consecutive wins. Included on its list of wins this weekend was a 3-0 (25-22, 25-12, 25-20) win over Millikin and a 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-16) victory over Rose-Hulman on Friday.

Action at the invitational concluded with a 3-1 (25-20, 21-25, 25-19, 25-14) win over Olivet and a 3-0 (25-13, 25-23, 25-20) win over host DePauw in the championship, all of which took place on Saturday.

Leading the way in the win over Olivet was Atchison and Venessa Haase (Miamisburg, Ohio / Miamisburg) with 11 kills apiece. Jackie Reinhart (New Riegel, Ohio / New Riegel) and Morgan Magers (Green Springs, Ohio / Old Fort) each served up three aces. Reinhart added 28 digs followed by Donelan with 23, while Magers dished out 45 assists.

In the title match, Haase kept DePauw at bay with her jump serve, finishing with eight service aces in the three-set match. Haase also added eight kills and 15 digs. Reinhart and Jacki Street (Grafton, Ohio / Midview) finished with 11 kills apiece and Atchison had 10. Magers handled the offense once again and tallied 45 assists, to go along with two aces. Defensively, Reinhart had 19 digs and Donelan registered 11.
