BEREA, Ohio - The Heidelberg volleyball team traveled to the campus of Baldwin Wallace to face the Yellow Jackets. Entering the matchup, the Berg was unbeaten in Ohio Athletic Conference play and following a fourth set rally, the Student Princes would remain unbeaten in the conference at 4-0.
The Berg took the first set from the Yellow Jackets, 25-23 before dropping a close second set, 23-25. The Student Princes took the third set decisively, 25-11. The fourth set would need extra points but the Berg outlasted the Yellow Jackets to go on to win 28-26.
Senior Amber Welfle led the Berg offensively with a game-high 23 kills and also played well defensively with 18 digs. Sophomore Jamie Kluding finished behind Welfle offensively with 13 kills and was the only other Student Prince to finish with double-digit kills.
Senior Alexa Frank and junior Stephanie Romie played brilliantly against Baldwin Wallace, tallying 28 and 26 assists respectively. Frank has collected a team-high 454 assists in her senior campaign while Romie has recorded 403 in 2013.
Defensively, the Berg was led by Grace Samenuk’s 22 digs followed by Welfle’s 18 and junior Jubilee Haase’s 17. Kluding, despite her offensive effort, collected 11 digs in Berea.
The Heidelberg ladies move to 12-13 overall while remaining undefeated in OAC competition.
Heidelberg Volleyball will continue conference action when they travel to Westerville, Ohio to battle the Cardinals of Otterbein University on Friday, October 18. Action from Otterbein is slated for 7:00 p.m.
