MARIETTA, Ohio—One night after clinching at least a share of its third straight Ohio Athletic Conference regular season championship, the No. 6 Heidelberg University volleyball team extended its winning streak to 18 consecutive matches by defeating Thiel (Pa.) College, 3-2 (25-16, 25-15, 22-25, 17-25, 15-8), and sweeping Pitt – Bradford (25-10, 25-10, 25-15) today in non-conference matches at Ban Johnson Arena in Marietta, Ohio.

The Tri-Color moves to 27-2 overall.

Against Thiel, sophomore middle hitter Amber Welfle (Norwalk/St. Paul) and junior second-team All-OAC middle hitter Marian Bevington (Celina/Parkway) led the offense with 13 kills and 11 kills, respectively. Junior setter Rachel Ferguson (Brighton, Mich./Brighton) set the offense with 32 assists, while sophomore setter Alexa Frank (Tiffin/Calvert) added 14 assists of her own.

Senior reigning OAC player of the year Jackie Reinhart (New Riegel) topped the defense with 30 digs and freshman libero Tessa Benanzer (Fort Loramie) notched 31. Bevington blocked seven Thiel attacks.

Against Pitt – Bradford, freshman outside hitter Kristen Zumberger (Sidney/Fort Loramie), Bevington and Welfle etched six kills. Freshman setter Stephanie Romie (Anna) recorded a season-high 21 assists to lead the offense.

Five student-athletes dug five or more attacks, led by freshman libero Haleigh Krell (Toledo/St. Ursula) with eight. Sophomore middle hitter Lauren Brown (Cable/Triad) aided the defensive effort with four blocks.

The Berg closes OAC play Tuesday, Oct. 25 by hosting rival Ohio Northern University at 7 p.m. at Seiberling Gymnasium in Tiffin.
