Strike Out Cancer a Huge Success

The Heidelberg University softball team partook in the Strike Out Cancer fundraiser to help benefit the American Cancer Society on Wednesday, April 28, 2010. The event took place in conjunction with the Berg’s away game verse John Carroll University.

The event featured Connie Remein, head coach Betsy Hada’s aunt, throwing the first pitch. She has fought cancer for the past 15 years. Connie retired this year as special needs teacher having taught the North Olmsted and Cleveland School Children for the past 28 plus years. She currently volunteers at the Providence House for at Risk Children and in her friend's Kindergarten class. She is very proud of her family: her husband- Warren, her son Daniel and his wife Megan and her daughter Chrissy, who is now serving in the Peace Corps.

The Strike Out Cancer event is a special event that recognizes survivors and non-survivors of cancer all around the world. Strike Out Cancer is an event that comes together with the American Cancer Society and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) to help raise funds and awareness to fight cancer.  It was an opportunity for the Berg to give back to their Tiffin community and help support all who have been faced and touched by cancer. The day alone was a day where everyone can join together and help fight the battle of cancer, giving hope and support to all who are affected.

During the game, Heidelberg wore t-shirt jerseys to commemorate the event, which were sponsored by RDP Sports Plus. The Heidelberg softball team worked very hard to make this event come alive and would like to thank their friends, family, and community members who came out and help support the Berg while they helped Strike Out Cancer.

Special thanks goes to John Carroll's assistant softball coach Kimberly Tackett and Heidelberg's assistant Pam Dreslinski for their hard work in making Strike Out Cancer successful.

Supporters joined in the fight against cancer by sponsoring members of the softball team, along with donations, a 50/50 drawing and t-shirt sales. A special thank you goes out to them for their generous contributions which totaled over $3000:
