Gerdeman Earns Weekly Honor

Austintown, Ohio – March, 22, 2010 – Senior Andrea Gerdeman (Ottawa, Ohio / Ottawa-Glandorf) of the Heidelberg University softball team has been selected as the Ohio Athletic Conference Softball Hitter of the Week for the week of March 22, 2010. It is the first hitter of the week honor of Gerdeman’s career and first for Heidelberg’s softball since Jenny Coletta was recognized in 2006. 

Over the course of four games, Gerdeman went 11-16, which figures out to be a batting average of .688. Four of her 11 hits were extra base hits, including a homerun. Gerdeman had an on base percentage of .706.

 

Heidelberg went 3-1 in double headers against Case Western Reserve University and Oberlin College.

 

The Berg would split with Case losing in game one with a score of 6-3, while rebounding in game two to win 11-2. Gerdeman was 6-8 at the plate, with an RBI and two runs scored.

 

Heidleberg went on to sweep Oberlin with scores of 12-1 and 12-4.  Gerdeman went 5-8 which included two RBIs and three runs scored.

 

On the year, Gerdeman leads the Berg in RBIs (14), doubles (5), hits (21), and is tied for first in homeruns with three.

Heidelberg is off to its best start in school history with a 12-2 overall record under the guidance of second-year head coach Betsy Hada.

 

Gerdeman is one of four Heidelberg athletes to receive this honor this week. Women’s and men’s tennis swept the honor, while Heidelberg’s baseball team was also represented. 

 

Kayla Gerber (Clyde,Ohio / Clyde) and Dylan Booth (Westerville, Ohio / Central) earned the honor for their tennis play, while Andy Lowe (Fort Wayne Ind. / Carroll) received the pitcher of the week honor.
