'Berg Splits Doubleheader At Case Western

Cleveland, Ohio – March 17, 2010 - The Heidelberg University softball team under the guidance of second-year head coach Betsy Hada posted a non-conference split with host Case Western Reserve University today.

 

The Berg rebounded from a 6-3 setback in game one to take an 11-2 victory in game two. Heidelberg now stands at 10-2 overall, while Case Western is 4-10 on the year.
 
In game one, Heidelberg held a 2-1 run advantage going into the bottom of the fourth inning. However, after scoring a run in the bottom of the fourth, the Spartans would add four more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a commanding 5-3 lead. Dana Thoms (Amherst, Ohio / Firelands)would pick up her first loss of the season.

 

The Berg was rejuvenated in game two. Heidelberg did most of its damage in the third inning scoring seven, courtesy of Bridget Moran (Lakewood, Ohio / Lakewood), Page Diers (New Richmond, Ohio / New Richmond), Ashley Stromack (LaGrange, Ohio / Keystone), Hannah Brumit (Stone Creek, Ohio / New Philadelphia), and Bess Artino (Bellevue, Ohio / Bellevue). Artino crossed the plate twice.

 

Offensivley, Andrea Gerdeman (Ottawa, Ohio / Ottawa-Glandorf) went 4-4 with two runs scored and a RBI. Moran and Kaitlyn Esordi (Brownstown, Mich. / Oscar A. Carlson) contributed with three RBIs each, while sophomore Megan Reinhart (Tiffin, Ohio / Hopewell-Loudon) hit in two runs.

 

Ali Sayre (Sylvania, Ohio / Sylvania-Northview)would pick up her first win of her career with only giving up four hits and two runs, while retiring one.
