Tiffin, Ohio - May 24, 2010 - Senior Andrea Gerdeman (Ottawa, Ohio / Ottawa-Glandorf), a member of Heidelberg University’s softball team, has earned a spot on the 2010 Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference Softball First Team. This marks the second time that Gerdeman has earned this honor. Last year she was picked on the Honorable Mention Team.
The academic award winners are selected by the OAC faculty athletics representatives. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.25 grade point average, be a starter or key reserve and be in at least her second year of participation in the sport.
A health and physical education major, Gerdeman carried a 3.63 gpa. At the plate, she led the team with seven homers and 28 RBI and was tied for first with 37 hits. Gerdeman tied for second on the team with doubles (8) and slugging percentage (.559).
Under the guidance of second-year head coach Betsy Hada, Heidelberg concluded the 2009-10 season but not without setting the bar high for next year. Its 22-16 overall record ties for second-most all-time for wins in a single season. The team also eclipsed the most home runs in a single season with 21. Against league foes, Heidelberg finished 7-11. Included in its list of victories was a doubleheader sweep of nationally ranked Mount Union College, as well as victories against Muskingum University, Marietta College and Baldwin-Wallace College.
