For the first time in Heidelberg University softball history, two Student Princes receive All-Region honors in the same season. Junior Jami Wagner (Alvada/New Riegel) and freshman Mikaela Mitsch (McHenry, IL.) become the fifth and sixth Student Princes to be selected to the All-Region team in the history of Berg softball.
Wagner was named to second team, while Mitsch collected an at-large bid.
Wagner was a mainstay for the Berg in center field as she started all 36 contests and finished the 2013 season with a .400 batting average. The junior collected 54 hits, 28 runs, seven RBI's and five triples as the Berg's leadoff hitter.
The All-Region selection marks the first of Wagner's career.
After her decorated junior season, Wagner sits third all-time on Heidelberg's hits list with 147, fifth on the all-time runs list with 87 and in a tie for third in triples with eight. Wagner is also in a tie with 2001 graduate Seka Lewis for the top spot on Heidelberg's all-time steals list with 61 career stolen bases.
Mitsch is the first Heidelberg freshman to garner All-Region honors. The young catcher batted a team best .450 in her first year with 36 hits, eight doubles and a team-high 26 RBI's.
Mitsch spent the 27 games she started behind the plate for the Student Princes, but missed the last nine contests of the season after suffering a season ending knee injury against Baldwin Wallace.
"I could not be more proud of Jami and Mikaela", said fifth year head coach Betsy Hada. "These two worked hard all year and they deserve the recognition."
