Bessie Artino Named OAC Hitter of the Week

TIFFIN, Ohio—Heidelberg University senior first baseman Bessie Artino (Bellevue) has been named Ohio Athletic Conference softball hitter of the week, announced today by the league office. Artino batted .333 (7-for-21) over a six-game stretch with one double, three home runs and nine runs batted-in. She also scored three times and boasted a slugging percentage of .810.

The honor comes on the same day that she will play her last two games in the Tri-Color. Heidelberg closes its 2012 season tonight with a non-conference doubleheader against The College of Wooster.

This season, Artino leads the team in hitting (.402), hits (51), doubles (13), home runs (eight), RBI (48), slugging percentage (.693) and on-base percentage (.433). She also already broke the school single-season record for RBI and is four hits shy of tying her own single-season record of 55, set in 2011.
