TIFFIN, Ohio—The Heidelberg University softball team wraps up its 10-game road trip Friday when it faces Muskingum University in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader at Donna J. Newberry Field in New Concord, Ohio. The first game is slated for 1 p.m.

Heidelberg (11-9, 2-2 Ohio Athletic Conference) split a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday at Case Western Reserve University. Senior first baseman Bessie Artino (Bellevue) led the Berg offensively, going 3-for-7 with three runs batted-in and one run scored. In just her third career start, freshman right hander Christine Foster (Luckey/Eastwood) scattered two runs over 5.0 innings in the second game and improved to 3-0.
Artino (.397, 19 RBI, 1 HR, 13 R) leads the offense in batting average and on-base percentage (.433), is second with a .540 slugging percentage and is tied for seventh in the OAC in RBI. Sophomore left fielder Julie Okorn’s (Euclid) (.370, 5, 0, 13) batting average has climbed 33 points within the last week. Sophomore second baseman Erica Huffman (Strongsville) (.364, 11, 0, 12) is tied for seventh in the OAC with 28 hits and sophomore center fielder Jami Wagner (Alvada/New Riegel) (.362, 4, 0, 21) is fifth in the league in runs and leads the team with 10 stolen bases.
In the circle, junior southpaw Ali Sayre (Sylvania/Northview) and senior righty Lexie Pinkelman (Metamore/Evergreen) have combined to start 14 of 20 games. Sayre (1.43 ERA, 37 K, 56.2 IP) is 4-4 in nine appearances, is tied for eighth in the league with five complete games, and is fourth in the OAC in ERA and innings pitched. Pinkelman (3.98, 39, 43.0) is 3-4 in nine appearances, including five complete games, and is tied for seventh in the league in strikeouts.
Muskingum (12-12, 4-4 OAC) has won five of its last seven games, including a doubleheader sweep Wednesday of Bethany (W.Va.) College. Courtney Moyer was 5-for-9 at the plate with three RBI and three runs, while Ashley Price hurled a complete game four-hitter in the second game.
Moyer (.373, 13, 4, 13) leads the team in batting average and is tied for fourth in the OAC in home runs. Jaclynn Hess (.365, 5, 1, 7), Kayley Bevard (.333, 5, 0, 10), Aly Mazzei (.328, 13, 1, 11) and Apryl Patterson (.308, 6, 1, 9) are also hitting above the .300 mark.
Brittany Folk (2.98, 34, 54.0) anchors a three-person rotation and is 3-5 in 10 appearances (nine starts). She is tied for ninth in the circuit in innings pitched, and is 10th in strikeouts and complete games (four). Price (3.23, 24, 39.0) is 5-2 in 13 appearances (seven starts) and Ashley Gilbert (4.20, 30, 36.2) is 2-4 in 11 appearances (seven starts).
Following Friday’s doubleheader, the Berg will return to Tiffin to host its first doubleheader in nearly three weeks when it faces Ohio Northern University in a pair of OAC games Wednesday.
