ADA, Ohio—Junior Josh Lynch (Dayton/Meadowdale) won both the long and triple jumps today to lead the Heidelberg University men’s and women’s indoor track & field teams at the Joe Banks Invitational hosted by Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio. The men tallied 135 points to land in third place among the six-team field, while the women tallied 26 points and came in sixth place among seven teams.
Lynch’s 46-8.25 mark in the triple jump set a meet record. He also recorded 20-10.50 in the long jump.
Junior Gibril Kamara (Westerville/Central) and sophomore Cartel Brooks (Kokomo, Ind./Galion) each turned in second-place showings in the 60-meter dash (7.10) and the long jump (20-10.50), respectively. Brooks also placed second in the 60-meter dash (7.25) and ran the first leg of the 4-by-200-meter relay team, along with freshman Austin Bentz (Tiffin/Columbian), Kamara and junior Wes Hendricks (Beavercreek), that finished in second place in 1:31.96.
Sophomore Drew Avsec (Geneva) led four Student Princes who finished within the top six in the one-mile with a second-place showing in 4:29.14. Senior Jacob Hoffman (Shelby) (4:34.07), sophomore David Kindall (Sullivan/Black River) (4:35.56) and senior John Gogle (Sunbury/Big Walnut) (4:35.60) placed third, fifth and sixth, respectively.
Junior Shondell Thomas (Westerville/South) highlighted his day with a third-place finish in the 800-meter run in 2:00.31. Freshman Hank Bevington (Celina/Parkway) also came in third place in the 60-meter hurdles with a 8.76 clocking.
Sophomore Sophie Goobic (Canton, N.Y./Hugh C. Williams) highlighted women’s action with a 3:15.61 time in the 1,000-meter run to win the event.
Senior Lilly Hansberger (Norwalk/Western Reserve) placed third and sixth in the 400-meter dash (1:04.48) and 200-meter dash (28.48), respectively. Freshman Julia Darling (Amsterdam/Carrollton) came in fifth in the 3,000-meter run in 12:06.30.
Both teams return to action Saturday, Feb. 11 at the All-Ohio Championships hosted by OAC foe Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio.
