Delaware, Ohio – May 27, 2011 – Sophomore Nate Davis (Dayton, Ohio / Stivers) of the Heidelberg University men’s track and field team earned All-American honors at the 2011 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio.
Davis cleared 6’7” in the high jump to tie for sixth place and land a spot on the All-American podium for the first time in his career. It was the second straight season he qualified for nationals in the event. He became the 14th individual All-American on the outdoor track in the history of the program and he is the second high jumper to earn such recognition. In 2000 Darren Nelson reached the podium in the high jump.
This season Davis successfully defended his Ohio Athletic Conference high jump title and went on to top his own school record in the event. His jump of 6’11” set a new school record and was an automatic qualifying jump for nationals.
In the winter Davis is a starting forward on the men’s basketball team. He has helped to guide the Berg to the OAC Tournament each of his two years and he landed a spot on the All-OAC team this season.
The men’s 4x400-meter relay team of Josh Bowmar (Marengo, Ohio / Highland), Seth Robertson (Burton, Ohio / Sunbury), Joe Yoder (West Liberty, Ohio / West Liberty Salem) and Terrence Horton (Pickerington, Ohio / Pickerington) will look to secure All-American honors tomorrow when they compete in the finals. Also Bowmar will compete in the javelin as well.
