Kent, Ohio – February 19, 2011 – The Heidelberg University men’s and women’s track and field teams, under the guidance of first-year head coach Briana Shook, competed in one final prep for the upcoming Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Championships, hosted by Capital University starting on Friday, February 25. Berg participated in the Kent State Tune-Up as well as the Reick Meindl Last Call at Capital.
On the women’s side, sophomore Marian Bevington (Celina, Ohio / Parkway) earned sixth place in long jump with a leap of 17’1.50” and 20th in 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.59, only .39 seconds away from the provisional mark.
Freshman Sophie Goobic (Canton, N.Y. / Hugh C. Williams) earned 18th place in the 1,000 meter run with a time of 3:09.20. Junior Alexis Goodman (Tiffin, Ohio / Columbian) ran the 60 meter dash in a time of 8.38, good for 32nd place. In the 1 mile run, sophomore Bobbi Custer (Woodstock, Ohio / Triad) crossed the finish line at 5:36.30, earning her a 38th finish.
Also competing were sophomores Kristin Burns (Milford Center, Ohio / Fairbanks) who clocked in at 1:02.59 (30th) in the 400 meter dash and Jessica Jones (Wauseon, Ohio / Wauseon) running a 2:33.29 (39th) in the 800 meter run.
Highlighting for the men was the 4x400 meter relay team consisting of senior Seth Robertson (Burton, Ohio / Newbury), freshman Tyler Harris (Berea, Ohio / Berea), junior Joe Yoder (West Liberty, Ohio / West Liberty Salem), and senior Terrance Horton (Pickerington, Ohio / Pickerington). They earned third-place at a time of 3:20.79, with just missing the provisional mark. Yoder also took 24th in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.81.
Freshman Drew Avsec (Geneva, Ohio / Geneva) and junior Jordan Karnes (Edgerton, Ohio / Edgerton) earned 15th (2:38.79) and 16th (2:38.83) in the 1,000 meter run.
Sophomores Larry Massey (West Liberty, Ohio / West Liberty Salem) and Justin Burnett (Springfield, Ohio / Northwestern) clocked in at 7.32 (42nd) and 7.33 (42rd), respectively, in the 60 meter dash. Burnett also earned an 18th place finish in the 200 meter dash (22.88).
Also competing were juniors Jacob Hoffman (Shelby, Ohio / Shelby) and John Gogle (Sunbury, Ohio / Big Walnut) who finished 39th (4:35.29) and 41st (4:35.79), respectively, in the 1 mile run.
At Capital, senior Frank Medina (Wakeman, Ohio / Western Reserve) recorded a throw of 48'10¾" in shot put, good enough for his personal record.
Freshman Jordan Montgomery (Norwalk, Ohio / Western Reserve) and senior Adam Bumb (Alvada, Ohio / New Riegel) recorded leaps of 38’4.25” and 36’5.75”, respectively in triple jump.
Sophomore sprinter Gibril Kamara (Westerville, Ohio / Central) earned 20th (24.13) in the 200 meter dash and 10th (7.22) in the 60 meter dash.
For the women, junior Aaliyah VanLeer (Cleveland Heights, Ohio / Cleveland Heights) participated in high jump with a leap of 4’3.50”.
