Higginbotham Leaps to OAC Honor

Austintown, Ohio – January 25, 2010 – The Heidelberg University men’s track and field team showcased its depth in the field events for the second-straight week. For its efforts, senior Julius Higginbotham (Elyria, Ohio / Elyria) was tabbed the Ohio Athletic Conference Men’s Field Athlete of the Week. A week ago, freshman Joshua Lynch (Dayton, Ohio / Meadowdale) took home the honor.

Over the weekend, at the unscored Northwest Ohio Invitational, Higginbotham excelled in the long jump and triple jump to lead the way for the Berg.

Higginbotham leaped to the championship in the long jump with a NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 23’3 inches. His jump currently stands third in the nation.

The 2009, indoor national qualifier in the long jump, also made an impression in the triple jump, finishing second with a jump of 42’5.5”.

Higginbotham concluded his day on the track where he sprinted to an eighth place finish in the 60-meter dash, in a time of 7.18.
