Seven members of the Heidelberg University track and field squad traveled to Naperville, Illinois and the campus of North Central College to compete in the Dr. Keeler Invitational.
The Heidelberg women shined in Naperville and Marian Bevington (Celina/Parkway) and Ally Blum (Galion/Northmor) finished second in the women’s long jump and the women’s discus respectively.
Bevington leaped 5.56-meters (18-03.00) in the finals to claim second place. Bevington then ran a 15.02 in the 110-meter hurdles to claim fourth.
Blum tossed 39.80-meters (130-07) in the finals of the women’s discus to take second place for the Berg women.
Freshman Mary Beth Boyden (Somerset/Sheridan) claimed a fourth place finish in the women’s shot put with a heave of 13.36-meters (43-10.00).
Brittany Tatum’s (Clevelnad/Trinity) ninth place finish in the women’s hammer throw rounded out the Heidelberg women. Tatum tossed 42.77-meters (140-04) to earn ninth.
On the men’s side, Robert Taw’s performance in the men’s javelin led the Student Princes. Taw’s heave of 56.53-meters (185-05) was enough for fourth place.
Nate Davis (Dayton/Stivers) leaped 1.95-meters (6-04.75) to place him in a three-way tie for ninth place in the men’s high jump.
Finally, Jacob Berryman’s (Fremont/Ross) 75th place finish in the men’s 800-meter run, rounded out the Heidelberg men. Berryman clocked a time of 2.02.12 in the final heat.
The Heidelberg squad will return to Naperville next weekend to participate in the Gregory Invite. Competition is scheduled to begin on Thursday, May 16.
