Briana (Shook) Hess enters her third year as head men’s and women’s cross country and track and field coach after being appointed on November 15, 2010.
Hess previously served as an assistant track and field and cross country coach at the University of Toledo from 2004-08. While with the Rockets she assisted with all facets of the program. Prior to starting at Heidelberg Shook worked with North Coast Orthopedic Surgery Inc.
“Coaching is my true passion and I look forward to continue to build the cross country and track and field programs at Heidelberg," said Hess. Hess ran professionally for Nike until 2007. While running as an undergrad at Toledo, she was a three-time All-American in track and cross country. Hess won 11 Mid-American Conference titles with three runner-up finishes. In 2002 she was named the Great Lakes Region Cross Country Runner of the Year. From 2004-07 she was the American record holder in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Hess graduated with a degree in photography and communications. In the classroom she was named to the Dean’s List multiple times and earned Academic All-America recognition.
“This is a great opportunity for me to do what I enjoy and it allows me to stay close to home,” said Hess. “Heidelberg has a great family atmosphere and I am excited to be here."
Personal: Coach Hess graduated from nearby Seneca East High School in 1999 and from the University of Toledo in 2004. Coach Hess currently resides in Tiffin with her husband Derek and their one year old Atley who was born on July 1, 2012.
