Briana (Shook) Hess in now in her second year as head men’s and women’s cross country and track and field. Hess was appointed head coach on November 15, 2010.

Hess previously served as an assistant track and field and cross country coach at the University of Toledo from 2004-08. While with the Rockets she assisted with all facets of the program. Prior to starting at Heidelberg Shook worked with North Coast Orthopedic Surgery Inc.

“Coaching is my true passion and I look forward to continue to build the cross country and track and field programs at Heidelberg," said Hess. Following graduation from Toledo in 2004, Hess ran professionally for Nike until 2007. While in undergrad, she was a three-time All-American in track and cross country. Hess won 11 Mid-American Conference titles with three runner-up finishes. In 2002 she was named the Great Lakes Region Cross Country Runner of the Year. From 2004-07 she was the American record holder in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Hess graduated with a degree in photography and communications. In the classroom she was named to the Dean’s List multiple times and earned Academic All-America recognition.

“This is a great opportunity for me to do what I enjoy and it allows me to stay close to home,” said Hess. “Heidelberg has a great family atmosphere and I am excited to get started.”

She graduated from nearby Seneca East High School in 1999 and currently resides in Tiffin.
