TIFFIN, Ohio—John Carroll University defeated the Heidelberg University men’s tennis team, 7-2, today in an Ohio Athletic Conference match in Tiffin, Ohio. The Blue Steaks went 4-2 in singles play and swept doubles action.
Senior Ryan Patrick Earl (Madison) defeated Michael Hulseman; 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (11-9); at No. 3 singles, and sophomore Dorion Kempf (Galion) defeated Peter Scanniello; 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, 1-0 (10-6); at No. 5 singles.
Sophomore Matthew McDivitt (Cortland/Lakeview) took his No. 6 singles match into a tie-breaking third set, but was edged, 11-9, by Eric Grimaldi.
Heidelberg will compete in the first round (quarterfinals) of the 2012 OAC Men’s Tennis Tournament on May 2. The eight-team bracket will be held on campus sites before moving to the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason for the semifinals and finals rounds.
