'Berg Returns to Win Column; Tops Marietta 5-4

New Lexington, Ohio – April 16, 2011 – The Heidelberg University men’s tennis team ended a two-game skid and topped Ohio Athletic Conference foe Marietta College, 6-3. The win improves the Berg’s record to 8-7 overall and 3-2 in the OAC, while the Pioneers drop to 2-8 overall and 1-3 against league foes.

The duo of Cliff Goetz (Oak Harbor, Ohio / Oak Harbor) and Patrick Ryan Earl (Madison, Ohio / Madison) started off the Berg with a win in the first double set, 8-4.

After Marietta snuck out an 8-5 in the second doubles, Dylan Booth (Westerville Central / Westerville, Ohio) and Dorion Kempf (Galion, Ohio / Galion) won the third doubles, 8-3.

Marietta would win the first single spot, but Heidelberg countered with two-straight singles wins. Goetz (6-0, 6-4) and Earl (6-3, 5-7, 7-6, 7-3) earned the back-to-back victories.

The Pioneers made it close with a four single spot victory, but Booth (6-3, 6-2) and Miles Yetter (Dublin, Ohio / Dublin Jerome) (6-2, 7-5) answered winning the final two singles. Yetter improves his team-best singles record to 11-2, while Booth follows with a 9-3 record.
