Hilton Head, S.C. – March 16, 2011 – The Heidelberg University men’s tennis team returned to the win column with a 7-2 victory over Edgewood College in Hilton Head, S.C. on its annual Spring Break trip. The win is the third in four outings for Heidelberg who stands at 4-3 on the year. Edgewood fell to 1-10 with the setback.
Edgewood won at first singles, but Heidelberg responded with 9-7 and 8-2 victories at second and third doubles, respectively, to take the lead heading into singles action. Patrick Ryan Earl (Madison, Ohio / Madison) and Zachary Schwenning (Barberton, Ohio / Barberton) teamed up in the second double spot, while Dorion Kempf (Galion, Ohio / Galion) and Matthew McDivitt (Cortland, Ohio / Lakeview) won at third doubles.
Heidelberg won five of the six singles matches in straight sets. Leading the way was Bobby Lochotzki (Oak Harbor, Ohio / Oak Harbor) (6-4, 6-3) followed by Cliff Goetz (Oak Harbor, Ohio / Oak Harbor) at second singles. Victorious at fourth singles was Schwenning (6-1, 6-1), while Dylan Booth (Westerville, Ohio / Central) (6-1, 6-0) and Miles Yetter (Dublin, Ohio / Dublin Jerome) (6-2, 6-1) rounded out the winners for the Berg at fifth and sixth single, respectively.
