The Heidelberg University men’s tennis team completed a clean sweep of the Quakers from Wilmington College, 9-0 to claim their second Ohio Athletic Conference of the 2013 spring season.
Senior Cliff Goetz (Oak Harbor) and junior Zach Schwenning (Barberton) led off the Berg win with two victories in singles action, 6-0, 6-2 and 6-1, 7-6 respectively.
The upperclassman duo teamed up for doubles competition and dropped their Quaker counterparts, 8-6 in the closest contested doubles match of the afternoon.
Heidelberg’s third position was occupied by junior Dorian Kempf (Galion), who bested his single opponent in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1.
Kempf teamed up with fellow junior Matt McDivitt (Cortland/Lakeview), Heidelberg’s five man, in doubles action. The duo downed their Wilmington opponents, 8-1.
McDivitt collected his sixth singles victory of the season, winning in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0.
Freshman Dan Driscoll (University Heights/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) swung his way to a 6-4, 6-4 victory in singles completion before collecting another Berg victory in doubles action.
Driscoll and his doubles partner, junior Brandon Lust (Bucyrus) dropped their doubles opposition, 8-2.
Lust shutout his Wilmington counterpart, 6-0, 6-0, in singles action.
The Student Princes (4-11, 2-5 OAC) will return to the court on Wednesday, April 24 when they host the Cardinals of Otterbein University. Action from the Heidelberg University Tennis Courts is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
