The Heidelberg University men’s tennis team continued their spring schedule on Thursday, February 21, when they traveled to Delaware, Ohio and the campus of Ohio Wesleyan.
The Student Princes, still hungry for a match victory in 2013, would leave Ohio Wesleyan just as hungry as the Battling Bishops downed the Berg men, 6-3.
Senior Zach Schwenning (Barberton) and junior Matt McDivitt (Cortland/Lakeview) collected two victories for the Berg in singles action. The third Heidelberg win came when Schwenning teamed up with fellow senior Cliff Goetz in doubles competition.
Schwenning competed as the number two singles player and gave the Berg its first singles victory in two sets, 6-4, 6-4.
Playing as the number four, McDivitt kept his OWU counterpart scoreless in the first set winning 6-0. The second set was more competitive as McDivitt downed the Battling Bishop, 6-3.
The duo of Schwenning and Goetz tallied the lone doubles win for the Berg. The senior twosome took down their Ohio Wesleyan counterparts 8-6.
The Heidelberg men will return to action over Heidelberg University’s spring break, as they travel to Hilton Head, South Carolina. Both the men and women will take on five opponents in four days before returning home to the Heidelberg University Tennis Courts to battle Defiance.
