The winningest head coach in Heidelberg tennis history, Jerry McDonald is in his tenth year as both the men’s and women’s head coach, but has overseen the men’s program for the last 26 years.

McDonald has served the Heidelberg athletic department in a variety of capacities over the last 26 years. He spent 19 seasons (1984-2002) as an assistant football coach including 17 as the offensive coordinator. During that span, the Berg offense broke numerous school and Ohio Athletic Conference records which still stand today. Throughout his tenure he has served as head baseball coach for two seasons (1985-86), was an assistant men's basketball coach for two years (1987-88) and most recently served as the Director of Athletics from 2002-2007.

McDonald is also the chairman of the health and human performance department.

A 1976 graduate of Heidelberg University, McDonald was a three-sport letterman in football, baseball and basketball and was a member of the 1972 Stagg Bowl championship football team. He received his master’s degree in 1986 from Bowling Green State University in Athletic Administration.

Prior to his return to Heidelberg in 1984, McDonald was a teacher and coach at Mansfield Madison and Hebron Lakewood High Schools. He is a native of Springfield, Ohio, and a 1972 graduate of Shawnee High School.
